Do you bring the management interface down if Centauri's optical link fails?

Modified on Thu, 23 Sep, 2021 at 8:08 PM

It is important to distinguish between the wireless fibre optic link between Centauri devices and the connection to the management interface of Centauri.

These are two separate things, and it is important to separate the flow of live data across the laser link from the access provided to manage the device, for all kinds of reasons related to privacy and security.

The ability to monitor the status of the link and other device performance parameters depends on maintaining reliable access via the internet to the management interface on the device. When the link between Centauri devices degrades or fails, the alerts and telemetry data for these events is relayed from the management interface.

The management interface also allows remote access to the device for troubleshooting or for maintenance without disrupting the flow of traffic over the live wireless fibre optic link.
